Homerilla Custom Printed Rugs: Now in Three Weights for Every Floor
Custom printed rugs have been one of our quietest categories. They do not get the same attention as curtains, but they solve a problem no curtain can: the floor. This week we updated the line with a new third weight option, and the range now covers everything from a soft bedroom mat to a dense, structured piece that holds up under a dining table.
Here is what changed, what each weight feels like, and how to pick the right one for your room.
The Three Weights, Explained
All Homerilla custom printed rugs are made to your size and printed with your chosen design. The difference is the base cloth underneath the print. We now offer three pile weights.

450gsm: Low Pile, Wool Backing, Cashmere Touch
The lightest of the three, 450gsm is a low pile rug with a wool backing. The surface is soft and fine, designed to mimic the delicate handfeel of cashmere. It is the most touch friendly option in the lineup, gentle under bare feet and pleasant for a child rolling around on the floor.
Because the pile is low and the texture is fine, 450gsm reads visually as smooth and flat. It suits rooms where the rug is a background element rather than the main character.
Best fit: bedrooms, reading nooks, layering over a larger neutral rug, spaces where you sit or lie directly on the floor.

650gsm: Higher Pile, Plush Faux Cashmere, More Support
The middle option, 650gsm, lifts the pile slightly higher. The surface is a heavier faux cashmere texture with more body and more visible softness. It still feels plush, but it has noticeably more support underneath. You sink in less, the rug holds its shape better under furniture, and the print sits on a more substantial base.
This is the most balanced choice. It works in living rooms where you want softness but also need a rug that does not flatten permanently under a sofa leg.
Best fit: living rooms, family rooms, home offices, entryways.

850gsm: New. Low Pile, Ultra Dense, Strong Support
The new addition, 850gsm, is the most engineered of the three. The pile stays low, similar to 450gsm, but the density is much higher. More yarn per square meter means the surface feels firm, structured, and highly supportive. It does not have the sink-in plushness of 650gsm, but it has the best shape retention in the lineup.
The dense construction also solves a specific visual problem. On deep or dark colored rug designs, a sparse pile can let the backing show through as white specks. 850gsm is dense enough that dark colors stay solid and saturated. No white flecks, no patchy look, just clean, rich color across the entire surface.
Best fit: dining rooms, high traffic hallways, entryways, any room with dark or bold rug designs, spaces under heavy furniture.
Printing Quality and Safety
All three weights use the same high resolution printing process. The design is dyed into the pile, not printed on top as a stiff coating, so the rug keeps its soft handfeel and the pattern does not crack or peel with use.
Every Homerilla rug also carries the same certification standard as our curtains. The dyes and backing materials are tested for harmful substances, which matters for a product that sits on the floor where babies crawl and pets nap.
